Feedback from the AMIS MasterClass 2023
Report from the Meeting of Industry Experts
organised by dankl+partner consulting | MCP Deutschland in Basel.
What do top performers in maintenance and asset management do better than others? What benefits does this bring for the company as a whole? An exchange of experience on one successful AMIS Journey took place in Basel in mid-May, where it quickly became clear what tangible benefits, sustainable improvement processes can deliver.
From 9 to 10 May 2023, 14 interested participants, from manufacturing companies, met for the AMIS MasterClass in Basel. The host, a well-known pharmaceutical company, showed how the maintenance organisation has developed into a proven world-class organisation, with the implementation of the AMIS programme over the last ten years.
In 2011, the today’s world-class organisation started its journey with the first AMIS Assessment as a site assessment led by MCP. With a score of only just over 30%, the team quickly realised that there were optimisation levers that should be implemented. Supported by the confidence of senior management and the involvement of production, the maintenance organisation, with the guidance of Reinhard Korb (MCP Germany), succeeded in improving the AMIS score to nearly 60% in 2015.
Based on the foresight that today's success does not last forever, the team at the pharmaceutical company did not settle for this, but continued to work on optimisation. Then, in 2018 came the breakthrough. In the 3rd AMIS Assessment, the hurdle to becoming a world-class organisation was reached, with an excellent AMIS score of 76%.
Thus, the idea of the AMIS MasterClass was born to show other companies how continuous development really does lead to success. Over the years, a culture has developed in the host team that notices their successes and also rewards them accordingly.
Consequently, the 4th AMIS assessment took place in October 2021. The goal was to exceed the hurdle of 75% again to remain in the world class zone. With a remarkable AMIS score of 85%, the team was not only rewarded but also confirmed in their approach. A clear success factor is the cohesion, as well as the perseverance of the entire organisation! The development into the world class level does not happen overnight, it is a steady process.
The team cites management support, quick wins (investing in issues that can be implemented quickly), generating value for the department, stability at all levels of the organisation, willingness to define required positions (TPM Champion, Maintenance Planner, etc.), and full support and involvement of the engineering and production teams, as key success factors in this remarkable journey.
Reinhard Korb, MCP Deutschland Partner, added:
“We are very happy about the successful world class project and are already looking forward to the next AMIS MasterClass in 2024.”
